“Boston has Beacon Hill and the Back Bay. Washington has Georgetown and DuPont Circle. Baltimore has Midtown.”
The five Midtown neighborhoods - Mt. Vernon, Bolton Hill, Charles North, Seton Hill, and Madison Park – were Baltimore’s best neighborhoods in the 19th century. Today, they have Baltimore’s greatest historic architecture and Baltimore’s best choice of interesting things to do. Since our beginning in 2000, Midtown Development has led the revitalization of these neighborhoods, pulling several of them back from the brink of vacancy and crime.
Our methods are a combination of planning, development, marketing, and organizing. We have brought about the renovation of more than 100 Midtown buildings, with a total investment of more than $25 million. We have also built strong neighborhood associations and led Midtown’s efforts for improvement in traffic, parking, and mass transit.
Our work is achieving its goals: all four of the Midtown neighborhoods are now neighborhoods of choice. Vacant buildings have been renovated, and vacant lots have become new market-rate buildings.
